What is the best way to reach your child's teacher?
An email or note sent in with your child is the best way to reach your child's teacher. If you would like to discuss something with the teacher by phone, please include the best phone number at which to reach you in your email or note. We will make every effort to address concerns in a timely manner and set up phone or Zoom conferences to address issues as needed.
How much help should I give my child on homework?
Homework is the best way for us to see what they can do on their own, but there are times when help is appropriate.
For a math assignment, for example, feel free to guide students through a problem or 2, or clarify what a word or direction means. However, if you find you have to work through each problem with your child, we would advise that you stop the assignment, and sign-off that a true attempt was made. This information will help use to better help your child.
On writing assignments, often students need support in determining which ideas to include. By all means, talk through the brainstorming process and ask questions to get them thinking. Also, during the drafting process, you my want to check in with them to ensure they are formatting their papers correctly. Please do not correct every spelling error, but do feel free to point out errors and ask the students to use their spelling strategies or resources to figure out misspelled words.
We pass back checked work at least 2 or 3 times a week - please look at these check assignments regularly as they are factors in report card grades and can keep you abreast of your child's progress. If you would like an update on your child's current progress in any subject, please contact your child's teacher directly.
